Privacy policy

Last updated October 4, 2026

Mint Speak is a Shopify app made by Mint Labs ("we", "us"). It lets a merchant's shoppers switch the store's wording into a fun voice (such as pirate or medieval) with one tap, and turns a voice on by default on the merchant's theme days. This policy explains what the app handles, why, and when it's deleted.

The short version

  • We store the merchant's settings. We don't collect or store personal data about the merchant's shoppers: no names, emails, IP addresses, cookies, visitor IDs or page addresses.
  • The voice is applied in the shopper's own browser. Their choice is kept in their browser's storage — for longer than the visit only when their privacy choices allow it.
  • When a shopper switches a voice on or back to normal, an anonymous count may be sent (only when their privacy choices allow analytics). It contains the voice and "on" or "off", nothing about the person.
  • Optional AI descriptions send only the product description's text to the AI model. Never customer data.
  • We never sell or share data, or combine it across stores.

Information about merchants

InformationWhy
Store domain and a Shopify access tokenTo save the settings where the theme app embed reads them, read the live theme's settings file (to show whether the app embed is on), read a few product titles and descriptions for the admin preview, and — for AI descriptions — read the chosen product and save the approved version to it.
Settings: voices, the button's text and look, theme days, words and page parts to leave alone, custom word swapsTo run the voices the way the merchant set them up.
The store's time zoneSo theme days start and end at midnight where the store is.
Plan statusRead from Shopify (Shopify's app pricing) to decide which features apply. Payments are handled entirely by Shopify.
Anonymous daily counts: voice, "switched on" / "back to normal", dateShown to the merchant on the app home. No identifiers. Deleted after 400 days.
AI usage per month (number of AI descriptions, token counts, cost) and which products have a saved AI description (product ID, title, voice, date)To apply the monthly allowance and cost limit, and to list saved versions in the app.

Information about the merchant's shoppers

InformationHow it's usedWhere / how long
Session storage mint_speakRemembers the voice the shopper chose (or that they went back to normal) while they browse, so every page opens the way they left it. Holds only the voice name, or "off" and which theme day it applies to. A user-interface setting the shopper asked for; no identifier.Shopper's browser, until the tab is closed
Local storage mint_speakThe same choice, kept for later visits — only when Shopify's Customer Privacy API reports that the shopper allows preferences to be stored. If they don't (or later withdraw consent), it isn't written and any stored copy is removed.Shopper's browser, until they change their choice or clear it
Anonymous countWhen a shopper switches a voice on or back to normal, the browser sends the voice and "on" or "off" through the store's own address (Shopify's app proxy) — only when the Customer Privacy API reports that analytics are allowed. We don't read or keep IP addresses, cookies, browser details or page addresses.Added to a daily total; deleted after 400 days
The page's textRewritten in the shopper's browser. It is never sent to us.Not stored

Because the app holds no data about shoppers, Shopify's customer privacy requests (customers/data_request, customers/redact) have nothing to return or delete; we acknowledge them. When a store is deleted (shop/redact, sent 48 hours after a merchant uninstalls) we permanently delete everything we hold for the store.

Merchants may want to mention the mint_speak storage entry in their own store's privacy or cookie policy.

AI descriptions (optional, Pro)

When a merchant asks for an AI version of a product description, the text of that description (not links, images, safety or allergen wording, and never customer data) is sent to an open AI model run by Cloudflare Workers AI on our account. The answer is shown to the merchant, who edits and approves it before it is saved to the product. Cloudflare doesn't use the text to train models. We don't keep the description text or the AI answers on our servers.

Where data is processed and how it's protected

The app runs on Cloudflare (hosting, database and Workers AI) and connects to Shopify's APIs. The storefront files are served by Shopify. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access is limited to Mint Labs staff who need it to provide support. We use no other sub-processors, analytics or trackers. See our security policy.

Retention

Settings, counts and AI usage are kept while the app is installed and deleted 48 hours after uninstall (so a quick reinstall doesn't lose them). Access tokens are deleted as soon as the app is uninstalled. Daily counts older than 400 days are deleted automatically.

Your rights

Depending on where you are, you may have the right to access, correct or delete information about you. Merchants can contact us directly and change their settings in the app at any time. Shoppers can clear the stored choice in their browser at any time. We respond within 30 days.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, notify merchants in the app.
